. it started when jill kelly, a friend of general petraeus, contacted the fbi about threatening emails she said she received from another woman. that woman was paula broadwell who wrote petraeus's biography. she said she used to jog with the general while he was leading the war in afghanistan. they got to know each other. the fbi checked petraeus's e-mail accounts and said they had not been compromised. petraeus was interviewed by the fbi, but it is unclear if broadwell has been questioned. i want to bring in joel kelly, her husband released this statement earlier today. this is the statement. it says, "we and our family have been friends with general petraeus and his family for over five years. we respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children." we are also now learning that paula broadwell revealed information regarding the investigation of the attack on the consulate in benghazi, li a libya. a video of her speaking in denver has now surface odd youtube. >> i don't know if a lot of you heard this, about the the cia annex had taken a couple of libyan mili
is prohibited from finding out what the fbi is doing, maybe somebody needs to read the constitution, the fbi is part of the department of yesterday. they actually work for the president. there is a lot here in the way the administration has handled this that i think warrants further investigation as well. >> greta: how do people who think this is an important topic -- or many important topics, how do they convince those who say, well, it's just political? how do they convince people that these things really matter in. >> the most important point is remembering that with four dead americans on september 11, other official americans and american private citizens throughout the middle-east remain at risk. until we fully understand as a nation what happened on september 11, we can't possibly take adequate steps or formulate policies to protect americans who might be at risk. i have never seen this as political. maybe that's just because i used to work in the state department and see the risk that -- that our people have all around the world. but the notion that you can passively wait for an inte
that prompted the fbi to investigate. also we know from that source that the investigation led to the discovery of e-mails between broadwell and petraeus that indicated the affair. more details are coming out about the timeline of events and when u.s. officials were notified of the circumstances of this investigation. the fbi informed the director of national intelligence james clapper about the investigation on tuesday night, election night. just as some polls were beginning to close. that director clapper as a friend, colleague, fellow officer and admirer urged petraeus to step down from his position. we know as well from that intelligence source that director clapper informed the white house about the investigation on wednesday and then on thursday the director and -- the questions now, of course, will focus on this second woman. who was she? what was the nature of her relationship with petraeus, and what more do officials know about the nature of those emails between broadwell and this other woman? maybe some of those questions will be answered as the oversight committees now begin to pose
is at the epicenter of this scandal. new this is morning she is not likely to face charges. fbi agents raided her home, taking computers and other documents earlier this week. finally, we now know the identity of the fbi agent who first investigated the whole mess. by now you probably know him as the shirtless agent, the guy who sent a shirtless photo to jill kelly, the other woman involved in this mess. fbi agents name is frederick humphries, over those supposedly harassing e-mails now linked to paula broadwell. hope you got that. >>> controversy over benghazi, as you know, has reached a boiling point, though. yesterday at his first press conference, being row elected, president obama has strong words for anyone who blames u.s. -- united nations ambassador susan rice for the benghazi response. here is what the president said. >> as i've said before, she made an appearance at the request of the white house in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. if senator mccain and senator graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. >> oka
doors. you can see a lot of hubbub here. this is the senate side. we have the acting director of the fbi, the director of national intelligence and so on and played according to our susan kelly, a closed-circuit video of the compound that was attacked in benghazi which officials are hoping to clear the air or clear up why they had their initial reporting that this was a spontaneous demonstration that started the attack, the deadly attack on benghazi. we'll wait to hear from the chairman and ranking republican and speaking public in a little more than an hour. >> and soda that, i also understand that some republicans are asking for a special committee to further investigate. anything new on that? >> reporter: very interesting. nothing new in terms of whether that will actually happen. in fact, looks more and more like it is not going to happen because these republicans meaning john mccain and others don't have the support of some of their high ranking republicans like the house speaker. never mind the democrats. but what cnn's ted barrett has learned is that john mccain in particular miss
. senior intelligence, state department, fbi officials, all have been appearing before congress next week as hearings on this armed assault resume. the chairman of the panel maintains that the u.s. knew early on that the september 11th attack was not a spontaneous demonstration prompted by the notorious anti-muslim video. four people were killed that day, including u.s. ambassador chris stevens. his sister spoke to cnn last night. >> he recognized fully the dangers, and not only but previously in israel and time served, and he was very well prepared by the state department to minimize the danger as much as possible. >> i don't think all the extra investigations -- >> both the fbi and the state department are independently investigating the attack. iran defends its right to confront that its words any invasion after an iranian jet fires on u.s. drones is it considered an act of war? ? questions? anyone have occasional constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating? yeah. one phillips' colon health probiotic cap each day helps defend against these digestive issues with three strains of good bacteria
